My name is Jacqueline Shaprow. I live in Los Angeles with my daughter, Arianna.
My home and life as a single mother for the last almost five years has been a bit of a rollercoaster. A magnificent, thrilling, breath taking, life altering roller coaster. With exhilarating highs where I feel the freedom, liberation, and excitement of living life on the edge - each day not knowing exactly what is coming, but always hoping for and graciously anticipating the best. Most days begin with homemade watermelon mint juice and watching the sunrise together. The sunrises and sunsets - our only constants. Arianna loves telling time using the sun's guidance. Some mornings we drive to the ocean and watch the waves come in. My daughter is always amazed by the strength and power of the current, as am I. Having a baby is like diving into an awe-inspiring wild current that leads you to places you would have never dreamed of before having a child.
A little bit about me, I was raised in Chicago and spent the majority of my childhood going on adventures with my mother, father, and sister. Watching my parents slow dance in our living room to stevie wonder playing on an old school record player - seeing the joy they experienced together- turned me into a hopeless romantic. Watching too many Disney movies as a kid - and taking one too many trips to Disney also didn't help. I followed my sister to Yale because I wanted to spend even more time with her. Next I went to law school in Los Angeles, and stayed out here afterwards. I grew up believing that the most important thing is family, and ultimately one day I dreamed of becoming a mother and nurturing my own child. My daughter always says "Mommy, your dreams came true when you had me" - she's a hundred percent right - they did.
This blog is my way of connecting with other moms, some in similar situations, others in very different situations. It's a way to celebrate all of the things that my daughter and I enjoy together, and some of the things I enjoy as an independent woman.
My loves: road trips with my daughter, lavender lemonade, freshly picked roses, orchids, farmers markets, red velvet macaroons, flavor infused olive oils, homemade chocolate chip cookies, holidays, lauryn hill, reality tv, massages, sunsets, maui, and the list goes on.
